Nendaz, Switzerland holds a lot of love for its history by providing a popular folk gathering devoted solely to long-held traditions. Many people come to this annual gathering from all over the world, allowing it to claim the name of the International Alpenhorn Festival. This wonderful festival will occur on the last week of July, from the 26th to the 28th.
An alphorn is a very long wooden instrument, which used to be played for communication in most mountainous regions of Europe, but now they are mostly used for music. The celebration features an alpenhorn blowing competition, many concerts, parades, folklore events, village revelries and even an alpenhorn concert of about 150 players. Wouldn’t it be amazing to hear over 200 horns being played in the remarkable Switzerland mountains, more than 7,000 feet above sea level?
